Bribie Island Surf Club

The Bribie Island Surf Club was founded in 1933, however patrols on Ocean beach at Woorim began in 1923 by members of the Metropolitan Swimming Club in Brisbane.

The club went in to recess during World War 2. After the war the club regenerated itself with many members once more travelling from Brisbane.

The clubs small membership gradually grew over the decades. Bribie has always been a very popular beach for bathers because of its close proximity to Brisbane.

During the early times the club had to deal with the hardships of its first 2 clubhouses being destroyed by fire. The current clubhouse was recently renovated from the clubhouse that was built in 1964. Stage 1 of the renovations was completed in 2005 with further renovations still to be complete. The fully licensed Supporters Club was built in 1979 and neighbours the surf lifesaving clubhouse as a detached building.

At the end of the seventies the club saw the addition of nippers and in 1980 after 60 years of male only membership the surf club opened membership to women. The current membership is approximately 150 nippers, 125 senior members and 2000 supporters club members.

The club has a strong lifesaving focus and has won many patrolling excellence awards with the Open Patrol Competition Team winning 15 consecutive Sunshine Coast Titles. Bribie Island also has a proud tradition in surf sports competition with the Rescue and Resuscitation (R & R) and surf boat teams dominating the achievements in the 1970's and 80's. In recent years the club has had some proud results in Inflatable Rescue Boat (IRB), Beach, and R & R competition with World and Australian Titles being achieved.

The club is the one of the oldest community organizations in the Caboolture Shire and in 1998 it celebrated its 75th anniversary of patrolling Woorim Beach.
