Lifesaving offers a varied range of competition areas that cater for all interests. Members have the opportunity to compete in a board range of competition areas from local carnivals to State, Australian and World championships. There are events which rely on physical fitness and endurance but there are also events that rely more on lifesaving knowledge than physical ability.
Members have the ability to compete individually or enter team based competitions.
What events are available?
Individual competition areas:
Surf swimming, ski paddling, board riding, board paddling, ironperson events,
flags, sprints, champion lifesaver, still water competition (pool), endurance events and marathons
Team competition areas:
A vast number of relay events both beach and water, patrol competition, first aid competition, patrol competition, march past, rescue and resuscitation (R&R), IRB (inflatable rescue boat comp), surf boat
What age category will I compete in?
Competition is provided in a comprehensive range of age categories and is provided for both male and female competitors.
Junior Activities competition starts with Under 8s and competitions are provided for every age group up to Under 15.
In senior competition the age groups are as follows-
Under 17, Under 19, Under 23, Senior, Open, Restricted (over 24 years), Masters (Over 30 years and masters events are placed in 5 year age blocks eg 30-34 yrs)
If competing is no longer your thing there are many opportunities for members to become accrediated coaches or officials. These are very important positions because clubs have to provide officials for their competitors to be allowed to compete.
