SKILLS MAINTENANCE & COURSES

Being a lifesaver isn’t just about patrolling the beach — it’s about challenging yourself, growing your skills, and stepping up for your community. Every new award is a chance to learn something different, take on new roles, and build confidence. Whether it’s First Aid, IRB Crew, or Driver, there’s an award for every member who’s ready for their next challenge.

But before we look forward, we also need to stay current. Skills Maintenance is compulsory for all members each season, making sure every lifesaver is rescue-ready.

  • Completed Skills Maintenance within the last two seasons? You only need to do the annual update this year.

  • Haven’t completed it for three or more years? You’ll need a more in-depth assessment or retraining, depending on the award and how much time has passed.

So, keep your skills sharp, tick off your Skills Maintenance, and then why not go one step further? Challenge yourself with a new award this season — your club, your patrol, and your community will thank you.

Other Awards
& Pathways

There are many different roles that you can enjoy as a lifesaver, not all of them require you to be an active bronze holder.

If you want to volunteer your time and patrol but don't have the physical ability you could can your Observers award and work from the tower monitoring swimmers and operating the radios.

The club is always in need of interested people and there are opportunities to join the BISLSC in differing roles - Nipper Age Manager, beach official, coach, committee member etc. You can choose a pathway that suits you.
